Inmitten eines sch\u00f6n angelegten Gartens steht der Uhrturm, der vermutlich schon im 13. Jahrhundert errichtet wurde. Dreihundert Jahre sp\u00e4ter wurde er bei der Neubefestigung des Schlossberges umgebaut und bekam sein heutiges Erscheinungsbild.<\/p>\n<h3>Verwirrendes Ziffernblatt<\/h3>\n<p>Das <strong>Ziffernblatt der Uhr<\/strong> scheint f\u00fcr Uneingeweihte zun\u00e4chst die falsche Zeit zu zeigen. Da urspr\u00fcnglich nur der Stundenzeiger existiere, wurde dieser m\u00f6glichst gro\u00df und sichtbar gestaltet. Der sp\u00e4ter hinzugef\u00fcgte Minutenzeiger dagegen ist deutlich kleiner, was oft f\u00fcr Verwirrung sorgt. Das Uhrwerk selbst stammt aus dem Jahr 1712 und funktioniert bis heute, wenn es auch inzwischen elektrisch betrieben wird.<\/p>\n<h3>Die \u00e4lteste Glocke in Graz<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Drei Glocken<\/strong> l\u00e4uten bis heute im Uhrenturm. Eine ist die Feuerglocke von 1645, die einst bei Br\u00e4nden in der Stadt von der Feuerwehr gel\u00e4utet wurde. Die sogenannte Armes\u00fcnderglocke aus dem 16. Jahrhundert l\u00e4utete zun\u00e4chst bei Hinrichtungen, sp\u00e4ter diente sie als Erinnerung an die Sperrstunde. Dar\u00fcber hinaus gilt Eggenberg als das bedeutendste Schloss der Steiermark. Heute geh\u00f6rt es zum <strong>Universalmuseum Joanneum<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3>Architektonische Allegorie des Universums<\/h3>\n<p>Viele architektonische Details von Schloss Eggenberg repr\u00e4sentieren den Kosmos. Im <strong>Planetensaal von 1678<\/strong> sind in einem Deckengem\u00e4lde die sieben damals bekannten Himmelsk\u00f6rper dargestellt, an den W\u00e4nden die zw\u00f6lf Tierkreiszeichen. Andere Elemente des Schlosses enthalten Anspielungen auf die Zeit:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>365 Fenster f\u00fcr die Anzahl der Tage pro Jahr<\/li>\n<li>31 R\u00e4ume f\u00fcr die Anzahl der Tage pro Monat<\/li>\n<li>24 Prunkr\u00e4ume mit 52 T\u00fcren und 60 Fenstern f\u00fcr die Anzahl an Stunden pro Tag, Wochen pro Jahr und Minuten pro Stunde<\/li>\n<li>4 Eckt\u00fcrme f\u00fcr die 4 Jahreszeiten<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Mittelalterliche Elemente<\/h3>\n<p>Einige Teile des mittelalterlichen Familiensitz der Eggenbergs wurde in den Bau des Schlosses einbezogen. So befindet sich im Zentrum eine <strong>gotische Schlosskapelle<\/strong>, deren Fl\u00fcgelaltar aus dem 15. Jahrhundert stammt. Nachdem dieser Anfang des 20. Das architektonisch spektakul\u00e4re <strong>Museum f\u00fcr zeitgen\u00f6ssische Kunst<\/strong> wurde 2003 errichtet und wird aufgrund seiner au\u00dfergew\u00f6hnlichen Erscheinung auch als Friendly Alien bezeichnet.<\/p>\n<h3>Resultat eines Architekturwettbewerbes<\/h3>\n<p>In ganz Europa wurde nach dem passenden Architekten gesucht, um das bestehende Eiserne Haus am vernachl\u00e4ssigten rechten Murufer zur restaurieren und gleichzeitig ein neues Kunsthaus anzubauen. Zwei britische Architekten gingen als Sieger hervor und schufen ein <strong>biomorphes Gebilde<\/strong> aus \u00fcber eintausend Acrylglaselementen, die abends Lichtsignale und Schriften in die Nacht senden.<\/p>\n<h3>Kunst mit Ausblick<\/h3>\n<p>Das Kunsthaus zeigt Werke aus den letzten vier Jahrzehnten. Aufgrund der Wandlungsf\u00e4higkeit im Inneren haben die K\u00fcnstler die M\u00f6glichkeit, Ausstellungsr\u00e4ume nach ihren individuellen Vorstellungen zu gestalten. Dazwischen gibt ein Bullauge den Blick frei auf den Uhrturm. Die Rede ist von den <strong>Figuren des Grazer Glockenspiels<\/strong>, die seit 1905 zu wechselnden Melodien hoch \u00fcber dem Platz tanzen.<\/p>\n<h3>Das erste Glockenspiel erklang am Weihnachtsabend<\/h3>\n<p>Das Glockenspiel wurde von dem <strong>Spirituosenproduzent Gottfried Maurer<\/strong> eingerichtet, der das Haus am damaligen Fliegelplatz im sp\u00e4ten 19. Jahrhundert erwarb. Er kannte Glockenspiele aus seinen Besuchen in Norddeutschland und Belgien und lie\u00df dementsprechend ein eigenes einbauen. Nach seinem Tod 1929 vermachte er es der Stadt mit der Auflage, es weiter zu betreiben.<\/p>\n<h3>Geschickte Werbema\u00dfnahme<\/h3>\n<p>Die Idee hinter dem Glockenspiel war nicht unbedingt uneigenn\u00fctzig: es lockte Kunden in Gottfried Maurers Weingesch\u00e4ft. Immerhin prostet die Figur des Jungen zum Ende des Glockenspiels den Zuschauern zu. Die sch\u00f6ne Fassade und die \u00fcber drei Etagen reichenden Arkadeng\u00e4nge sind im Renaissance-Stil gehalten. Kupferne Wasserspeier und die bronzene Brunnenlaube erg\u00e4nzen das Bild.<\/p>\n<h3>Die Pracht im Inneren<\/h3>\n<p>Die <strong>Innenausstattung<\/strong> des Landhauses kann sich ebenfalls sehen lassen. Jahrhunderts von den Jesuiten im barocken Stil ausgestaltet.<\/p>\n<h3>Die Innenausstattung<\/h3>\n<p>Besonders im Inneren der Kirche zeigen sich die unterschiedlichen Stile bis heute. Die Fresken stammen noch aus der Zeit von Friedrich III, der pr\u00e4chtige Hochaltar dagegen von den Jesuiten. Eines der bedeutendsten Kunstwerke der Kirche ist ein <strong>Gem\u00e4lde von Conrad Laib<\/strong> aus dem Jahr 1457, das zu den bedeutendsten sp\u00e4tgotischen Tafelbildern im deutschsprachigen Raum gez\u00e4hlt wird.<\/p>\n<h3>Die Zeit als Dom<\/h3>\n<p>Seit 1786 ist die Kirche ein Dom. Gleichzeitig dient sie als Bischofskirche und <strong>Hauptkirche der Katholiken in der Steiermark<\/strong>. Zudem ist der Dom eine kraftvolle Erinnerung an die Zeit von Graz als Kaiserstadt. Jahrhundert stammen, k\u00f6nnen auf f\u00fcnf Etagen begutachtet werden.<\/p>\n<h3>Der Ursprung der Waffen<\/h3>\n<p>Als Hauptstadt der Steiermark und aufgrund seiner strategisch wichtigen Lage s\u00fcdlich der Alpen war Graz \u00fcber lange Zeit ein <strong>Zentrum der Verteidigung<\/strong> gegen ein Eindringen der V\u00f6lker aus dem Osten. Als die osmanischen T\u00fcrken im 15. Jahrhundert in die Region vordrangen, wurde der Waffenvorrat aufgestockt, was wiederum 1642 zum Bau des Zeughauses f\u00fchrte.<\/p>\n<h3>Historisches Waffenlager<\/h3>\n<p>Nicht nur die im Zeughaus ausgestellten Waffen sind historisch, sondern auch das Geb\u00e4ude selbst. Tats\u00e4chlich ist es das <strong>einzige original erhaltene Zeughaus<\/strong> der Welt. Tats\u00e4chlich bestand sogar eine Verbindung zwischen seinem Wohntrakt in der 1438 begonnenen Burg und dem Dom.<\/p>\n<h3>Die Treppe eine optische T\u00e4uschung<\/h3>\n<p>Ende des 15. Jahrhunderts errichtete Maximilian I., Sohn von Kaiser Friedrich III., eine gotische Doppelwendetreppe, die heute ein H\u00f6hepunkt der Burg ist. Zwei gegenl\u00e4ufige Treppen kommen auf jedem Stockwerk zusammen, um sich gleich darauf wieder zu trennen. Sie wird oft als ein Symbol f\u00fcr die Ewigkeit interpretiert und erhielt den Spitznamen <strong>Vers\u00f6hnungsstiege<\/strong>, da getrennte Wege hier immer wieder verschmelzen.<\/p>\n<h3>Vom Kaiser zur Landesregierung<\/h3>\n<p>\u00dcber lange Zeit lebten die Habsburger in der Grazer Burg. Sie nahmen im Laufe der Zeit immer wieder Ver\u00e4nderungen und Erweiterungen vor, wie beispielsweise den Anbau des Registraturtrakts im 16. Jahrhundert. Kaiser Ferdinand II. lie\u00df sich das Grabmal 1614 von seinem italienischen Hofmaler planen, was den fast florentinischen Flair der Anlage erkl\u00e4rt.
