In seiner langen Geschichte musste er bereits mehrfach wiederaufgebaut und restauriert werden, aber nun thront er wieder hoch \u00fcber Magdeburg, wo er schon von weitem zu sehen ist.<\/p>\n<h3>\u00dcber tausend Jahre Geschichte<\/h3>\n<p>Vor der Errichtung des Doms im 10. Jahrhundert stand auf dem Platz das Kloster St. Mauritius. Dieses wurde von <strong>Kaiser Otto I.<\/strong> als Grabst\u00e4tte auserw\u00e4hlt, was zum Bau des ersten Doms f\u00fchrte. Nach einem Brand zu Beginn des 13. Jahrhunderts wurde dieser zerst\u00f6rt und musste neu gebaut werden. Auf sechs Ebenen demonstriert das <strong>h\u00f6chste h\u00f6lzerne Geb\u00e4ude Deutschlands<\/strong> die technischen Errungenschaften der Menschheitsgeschichte.<\/p>\n<h3>Technikausstellung<\/h3>\n<p>Die <strong>technische und wissenschaftliche Entwicklung der letzten 6.000 Jahre<\/strong> wird Ihnen anhand von vielen Experimenten und Schautafeln verdeutlicht. Dabei hat jede Ebene im Inneren des Jahrtausendturms einen eigenen Schwerpunkt:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Ebene 1: Fr\u00fchgeschichte bis Antike (bis zum Jahr 500)<\/li>\n<li>Ebene 2: Mittelalter (die Jahre 500 bis 1500)<\/li>\n<li>Ebene 3: Fr\u00fche Neuzeit (1500 bis 1750)<\/li>\n<li>Ebene 4: Zeit von 1750 bis 1850<\/li>\n<li>Ebene 5: Zeit von 1850 bis heute<\/li>\n<li>Ebene 6: Aussichtsplattform<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>H\u00f6hepunkte der Ausstellung<\/h3>\n<p>Zu der Technikausstellung geh\u00f6ren auch einige ganz besondere Exponate. So h\u00e4ngt in der Turmspitze ein <strong>Foucaultsches Pendel<\/strong>, das die Erdrotation demonstriert. Dieser ist nicht nur <strong>Herzst\u00fcck der Stadt<\/strong>, er versammelt auch so einige Sehensw\u00fcrdigkeiten um sich herum.<\/p>\n<h3>Magdeburger Reiter<\/h3>\n<p>Der strahlende Magdeburger Reiter f\u00e4llt einem sofort ins Auge, wenn man den Platz betritt. Das Original war die <strong>erste freistehende Reiterstatue<\/strong> n\u00f6rdlich der Alpen und geht auf das Jahr 1240 zur\u00fcck. Die dargestellte Figur ist vermutlich Kaiser Otto I. Inzwischen wurde die Originalstatue ins Kulturhistorische Museum verlegt, am Alten Markt steht eine Bronzekopie.<\/p>\n<h3>Altes Rathaus<\/h3>\n<p>Die prachtvoll restaurierte Fassade am Alten Markt geh\u00f6rt zum Alten Rathaus, dem <strong>Sitz des Oberb\u00fcrgermeisters<\/strong>. Die \u00e4ltesten Teile des Geb\u00e4udes stammen aus dem 12. und 13. Jahrhundert, der Rest wurde nach der Zerst\u00f6rung im Drei\u00dfigj\u00e4hrigen Krieg im italienisch-niederl\u00e4ndischen Renaissancestil wiederaufgebaut. Fest steht, dass sie im Jahr 941 das erste Mal urkundlich erw\u00e4hnt wurde, als Kaiser Otto I. sie den M\u00f6nchen des Moritz-Klosters schenkte.<\/p>\n<h3>Ber\u00fchmter Prediger<\/h3>\n<p>Bekanntheit erlangte die Johanniskirche vor allem durch <strong>Martin Luther<\/strong>, der 1524 hier predigte. Sein Einfluss lie\u00df die Stadt protestantisch werden. Nicht zuletzt deswegen gilt Magdeburg als das Zentrum der Reformation.<\/p>\n<h3>Wandlung zur Eventkirche<\/h3>\n<p>Heute wird die Kirche von einer Eventagentur betrieben und als <strong>Festsaal und Konzerthalle<\/strong> genutzt. W\u00e4hrend der normalen \u00d6ffnungszeiten kann sie auch au\u00dferhalb von Events besichtigt werden. Heute ist es das einzige noch betriebene Zweischwimmerhebewerk Deutschlands.<\/p>\n<h3>Einstellung und Wiederaufnahme des Betriebs<\/h3>\n<p>Der Betrieb des Schiffshebewerks Rothensee lief allerdings nicht ununterbrochen. 2006 wurde der Betrieb eingestellt, da die Anlage <strong>f\u00fcr moderne Gro\u00dfmotorg\u00fcterschiffe zu klein<\/strong> war. Die Stadt setzte sich jedoch f\u00fcr eine Wiederaufnahme ein und seit 2013 wird das Hebewerk wieder benutzt, haupts\u00e4chlich f\u00fcr touristische Zwecke.<\/p>\n<h3>Symbol f\u00fcr die Entwicklung der Wassertransporttechnik<\/h3>\n<p>Nur noch vier Hebewerke werden in Deutschland betrieben. Somit zeigt diese Technik eindrucksvoll das <strong>Fortschreiten der Technik im Wassertransport<\/strong>. Die Exponate umfassen vor allem zeitgen\u00f6ssische Kunst sowie Skulpturen aus allen Epochen von der Antike bis heute.<\/p>\n<h3>Geschichte des Klosters<\/h3>\n<p>Bei seiner Erbauung von 1015 bis 1018 wurde das Kloster Unser Lieben Frauen zun\u00e4chst in Holzbauweise errichtet. 1064 folgte dann die Fertigstellung des Steingeb\u00e4udes in Form einer dreischiffigen Basilika. Nachdem der erste Magdeburger Dom 1207 abbrannte, wurde die <strong>Marienkirche<\/strong> des Klosters zur Kathedrale ernannt.<\/p>\n<h3>Romanischer Klosterbau<\/h3>\n<p>Im 13. Jahrhundert wurden dem Kloster einige gotische Elemente hinzugef\u00fcgt, der romanische Grundcharakter blieb ihm jedoch erhalten. Dies macht das Kloster heute zu einer der bedeutendsten romanischen Anlagen Deutschlands. Dank seiner vielen detaillierten Zeichnungen konnte das Geb\u00e4ude auch ohne ihn gebaut werden. Nach knapp zwei Jahren Bauzeit wurde es im Oktober 2005 er\u00f6ffnet.<\/p>\n<h3>Ein Traum von Farben und Formen<\/h3>\n<p>Hundertwasser wollte mit seiner Gr\u00fcnen Zitadelle \u201eeine Oase f\u00fcr die Menschlichkeit und die Natur in einem Meer aus rationellen H\u00e4usern\u201c entwerfen. In der f\u00fcr ihn typischen Bauweise gibt es so gut wie <strong>keine geraden W\u00e4nde<\/strong>. Stattdessen zieren Balkone und S\u00e4ulen in unterschiedlichsten Formen und Farben die rosa-braune Fassade; goldene Kugeln schm\u00fccken das Dach.<\/p>\n<h3>Erkundung des Inneren<\/h3>\n<p>T\u00e4glich werden \u00f6ffentliche F\u00fchrungen durch das Geb\u00e4ude angeboten, denn das Innere ist ebenso sehenswert wie das \u00c4u\u00dfere. Sollte gerade eine der Wohnungen freistehen, wird diese in die Besichtigung eingeschlossen. Das Fehlen der geraden W\u00e4nde l\u00e4sst hier viele kuschelige Winkel entstehen, wenn auch wenig Platz f\u00fcr Wandschr\u00e4nke bleibt. Jahrhundert existiert in Magdeburg eine Sammlung tropischer Pflanzen, die ihresgleichen sucht. Zusammengetragen wurde sie von dem Magdeburger Maschinenbauunternehmer <strong>Hermann Gruson<\/strong> in den Jahren von 1860 bis zu seinem Tod 1895. Zu diesem Zeitpunkt galt sie bereits als eine der bedeutendsten Sammlungen exotischer Pflanzen weltweit.<\/p>\n<h3>\u00d6ffnung f\u00fcr die \u00d6ffentlichkeit<\/h3>\n<p>Gruson vermachte seine Pflanzensammlung der Stadt, ebenso wie eine Geldsumme zum Bau der Gew\u00e4chsh\u00e4user. Damit wurde die Sammlung f\u00fcr die \u00d6ffentlichkeit zug\u00e4nglich. Der traditionsreiche botanische Garten beheimatet heute \u00fcber <strong>3.000 exotische Pflanzenarten<\/strong> in neun Schauh\u00e4usern. Erst sieben Jahre sp\u00e4ter beschloss die Stadt, diesen in einen Zoo umzuwandeln und entsprechend zu vergr\u00f6\u00dfern.<\/p>\n<h3>Erweiterungen \u00fcber die Jahre<\/h3>\n<p>Nach einer Erweiterung des Zoogel\u00e4ndes besa\u00df der Magdeburger Zoo im Jahr 1959, nur neun Jahre nach seiner Er\u00f6ffnung, bereits 1.500 Tiere, die \u00fcber 200 verschiedenen Arten angeh\u00f6rten.
