Jahrhundert als <strong>Wellenbrecher und Schiffsanleger<\/strong> gebaut wurde. Einige Schiffe legen hier noch heute ab, vor allem die Ausflugsboote nach Neuwerk, Helgoland oder zu den Seehundb\u00e4nken.<\/p>\n<h3>Ungew\u00f6hnlicher Name<\/h3>\n<p>Es existieren mehrere Theorien, woher der Name des Anlegers stammt. Eine besagt, dass einst ein <strong>Segelschiff namens Olivia<\/strong> hier lag. Der Name klang wie das plattdeutsche Oliv, was alte Liebe bedeutet. Eine alternative Theorie spricht von drei hier gesunkenen Schiffen, von denen eines den Namen \u201eDie Liebe\u201c trug.<\/p>\n<h3>Historischer Windsemaphor<\/h3>\n<p>An der Alten Liebe steht auch ein <strong>Windsemaphor aus dem 19. Jahrhundert<\/strong>. Damals spielten diese Windanzeiger eine bedeutende Rolle in der Schifffahrt, indem sie passierenden Schiffen die Windverh\u00e4ltnisse auf Helgoland und Borkum anzeigten. Es ist Teil des Nationalparks Nieders\u00e4chsisches Wattenmeer. Eine Wattwanderung durch diese au\u00dfergew\u00f6hnliche Landschaft sollte bei jedem Cuxhaven-Urlaub unbedingt auf der To-do-Liste stehen.<\/p>\n<h3>\u00d6kosystem Wattenmeer<\/h3>\n<p>Wattenmeere entstehen immer in k\u00fcstennahen Gebieten, die <strong>stark von den Gezeiten beeinflusst<\/strong> werden. Da der Wasserstand in solchen K\u00fcstengebieten stark schwankt, kommt es bei Flut zur \u00dcberschwemmung des k\u00fcstennahen Bereichs, w\u00e4hrend er bei Ebbe wieder trockengelegt wird. Diese kurzzeitig trockenen Fl\u00e4chen bezeichnet man als Watt.<\/p>\n<h3>Besonderer Lebensraum<\/h3>\n<p>Im Watt finden Sie viele ungew\u00f6hnliche Pflanzen- und Tierarten. Die H\u00e4lfte der 4.000 m\u00b2 Ausstellungsfl\u00e4che wird f\u00fcr die Dauerausstellung genutzt, die andere H\u00e4lfte f\u00fcr Sonderausstellungen und Veranstaltungen.<\/p>\n<h3>Seefahrt und Fischerei<\/h3>\n<p>Viele Exponate und interaktive Stationen informieren die Besucher \u00fcber die <strong>Gefahren und Herausforderungen der Seefahrt und der Fischerei<\/strong>, zum Beispiel durch den Einfluss von hohen Wellen und starken Winden. Allerdings gibt es Unterschiede in Bauweise und Gr\u00f6\u00dfe. Dar\u00fcber hinaus haben Baken kein Leuchtfeuer. Trotzdem half die Kugelbake seit ihrer Erbauung im fr\u00fchen 18. Jahrhundert vielen Schiffen beim <strong>sicheren Passieren der Elbm\u00fcndung<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3>Historische Bedeutung<\/h3>\n<p>Die aus Holz errichtete Kugelbake verlor als Seezeichen mit der Zeit an Bedeutung, da moderne Schiffe inzwischen mit elektronischer Navigation ausgestattet sind. Trotzdem behielt die Kugelbake ihren hohen kulturellen Wert. Somit hat schon eine ganze Generation von Feuerschiffen den Namen Elbe 1 getragen.<\/p>\n<h3>Letztes bemanntes Feuerschiff<\/h3>\n<p>O\u2019Swald II wurde im Jahr 1988 au\u00dfer Dienst gestellt und befindet sich seitdem im Besitz der Stadt. Diese machte das <strong>Schiff als Museum<\/strong> der \u00d6ffentlichkeit zug\u00e4nglich. Das Schloss ist einer der \u00e4ltesten nicht-sakralen Bauten der <strong>norddeutschen Backsteingotik<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3>Geschichte des Schlosses<\/h3>\n<p>Mehrere Jahrhunderte lang besa\u00df das Anwesen aufgrund seiner wichtigen Bewohner eine <strong>hohe politische Bedeutung<\/strong>. Als Cuxhaven jedoch 1937 von Hamburg an Preu\u00dfen fiel, war diese auf einen Schlag verloren. Im Anschluss verfiel das Schloss zusehends.<\/p>\n<h3>Wiederaufbau als Museum<\/h3>\n<p>Sanierungsarbeiten am Schloss konnten wegen Geldmangel erst 1996 vervollst\u00e4ndigt werden. Heute ist das Schloss Ritzeb\u00fcttel wieder in seiner vollen Pracht zu bewundern, inklusive des wundersch\u00f6nen Schlossparks. Heute erinnert hier eine Ausstellung an ihr Schicksal.<\/p>\n<h3>Auswandererwelle in Cuxhaven<\/h3>\n<p>In der zweiten H\u00e4lfte des 19. Jahrhunderts verlie\u00dfen zahlreiche Deutsche das Land in Richtung Amerika, auf der Suche nach einem besseren Leben. Die Hapag-Reederei fuhr damals die Strecke von Hamburg nach New York. Bald wurden ihre Schiffe jedoch zu gro\u00df f\u00fcr die Elbe, so dass der <strong>Abfahrtsort nach Cuxhaven verlegt<\/strong> wurde. Die Hapag-Hallen entstanden infolgedessen als eine Art Bahnhof f\u00fcr Auswanderer.<\/p>\n<h3>Geschichte der Auswanderung<\/h3>\n<p>Die Vergangenheit der Hapag-Hallen wird heute in der <strong>Dauerausstellung \u201eAbschied nach Amerika\u201c<\/strong> dargestellt. Anhand zahlreicher Exponate erhalten Sie einen Eindruck der vielen Passagiere der Hapag-Schiffe und ihrer Reise \u00fcber den Atlantik. Tats\u00e4chlich kann man von hier sogar zu Fu\u00df durchs Wattenmeer nach Neuwerk laufen.<\/p>\n<h3>Wattwanderung zur Insel<\/h3>\n<p>Von den Stadtteilen Duhnen oder Sahlenburg kann man Neuwerk in etwa 2,5 Stunden erreichen. Der Weg wurde zur Orientierung mit sogenannten Pricken gekennzeichnet. Dabei handelt es sich um Stangen, an deren oberen Ende Zweige angebracht sind. Die Wattwanderung ist logischerweise nur bei Ebbe m\u00f6glich; bei Flut fahren <strong>Schiffe von Cuxhaven nach Neuwerk<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3>Sehenswertes auf Neuwerk<\/h3>\n<p>Einer der H\u00f6hepunkte von Neuwerk ist der <strong>historische Leuchtturm aus dem 14. Jahrhundert<\/strong>. Da die Insel damals bereits zu Hamburg geh\u00f6rte, gilt der Leuchtturm als \u00e4ltestes Geb\u00e4ude der Hansestadt. In den Sommermonaten kann der <strong>restaurierte Leuchtturm<\/strong>, der mittlerweile unter Denkmalschutz steht, besichtigt werden.<\/p>\n<h3>Sicherung der Elbm\u00fcndung<\/h3>\n<p>Vor dem Bau der Dicken Berta galt die Elbm\u00fcndung vor allem in der Dunkelheit aufgrund ihrer vielen Str\u00f6mungen als gef\u00e4hrliches Fahrwasser. Das stetige <strong>Wachstum der Schifffahrt<\/strong> machte daher den Bau der Dicken Berta und der weiteren Leuchtt\u00fcrme notwendig.
