Es handelt sich um eine knapp 7 m hohe <strong>Pyramide aus Sandstein<\/strong>, die im Jahr 1823 auf den \u00dcberresten der Konkordienkirche errichtet wurde. Sie markiert die Grabst\u00e4tte des Stadtgr\u00fcnders Markgraf Karl Wilhelm von Baden-Durlach.<\/p>\n<h3>Erinnerung an Stadtgr\u00fcnder<\/h3>\n<p>Im 18. Jahrhundert stand am Marktplatz die Konkordienkirche, in deren Gruft <strong>Markgraf Karl Wilhelm beerdigt<\/strong> wurde. Im Jahr 1807 wurde die Kirche jedoch abgerissen. Um trotzdem an das Grabmal zu erinnern, errichtete man 16 Jahre sp\u00e4ter die Pyramide an gleicher Stelle. Von hier aus l\u00e4sst sich der 256 m hohe Berg auch am besten erklimmen; entweder zu Fu\u00df \u00fcber den Treppenweg Hexenst\u00e4ffele mit 528 Stufen oder mit der historischen Standseilbahn.<\/p>\n<h3>Mit der Seilbahn auf den Gipfel<\/h3>\n<p>Die Turmbergbahn wurde 1888 er\u00f6ffnet und ist damit die \u00e4lteste, noch betriebene Standseilbahn in ganz Deutschland. Urspr\u00fcnglich wurde sie mit Wasserballast betrieben, seit den 50er Jahren l\u00e4uft sie jedoch elektrisch. Oben angekommen wartet die <strong>Aussichtsplattform Turmbergterrasse<\/strong>, von der aus Sie die ganze Stadt und die dahinterliegende Rheinebene \u00fcberblicken.<\/p>\n<h3>\u00dcberreste einer historischen Burg<\/h3>\n<p>Der Name Turmberg stammt von einem 28 m hohen <strong>Turm aus der Stauferzeit<\/strong>. Nach dem Wegzug der Markgrafen aus Durlach diente er nur noch als Wachturm, wovon bis heute eine historische Alarmkanone zeugt.
