Das Rathaus begrenzt ihn bereits seit seiner <strong>Fertigstellung im Jahr 1819<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3>Prachtvolle Architektur<\/h3>\n<p>Das <strong>klassizistische Rathaus<\/strong> wurde seinerzeit nach Pl\u00e4nen des Hofbaumeisters Johann Georg Barca errichtet. In der DDR-Zeit wurde es dann mehreren baulichen Ver\u00e4nderungen unterzogen, um besser den Idealvorstellungen von sozialistischer Architektur zu entsprechen. Inzwischen wurden diese \u00c4nderungen allerdings wieder r\u00fcckg\u00e4ngig gemacht.<\/p>\n<h3>Ausstellung im Keller<\/h3>\n<p>Neben einem pr\u00e4chtigen Festsaal und dem von dorischen S\u00e4ulen getragenen Balkon \u00fcber dem Eingang ist vor allem das <strong>gotische Kellergew\u00f6lbe<\/strong> ein H\u00f6hepunkt des Rathauses. Hier ist eine Ausstellung untergebracht, die alte Stadtansichten und arch\u00e4ologische Fundst\u00fccke aus dem Wismarer Raum zeigt.<\/p>\n<div class=\"tipp_center\"><strong>Tipp:<\/strong> Auf dem Marktplatz vor dem Rathaus steht die ebenfalls sehenswerte Wasserkunst Wismar, ein steinerner Brunnen im Renaissance-Stil aus dem sp\u00e4ten 16. Heute ist nur noch der Kirchenturm erhalten. Dieser z\u00e4hlt jedoch zu den \u00e4ltesten Geb\u00e4uden der Stadt, da die Kirche bereits in der Zeit von etwa 1260 bis 1270 errichtet wurde.<\/p>\n<h3>Wachstum der Kirche<\/h3>\n<p>Die urspr\u00fcngliche Marienkirche war nur ca. 36 m lang und 16 m hoch. In einer zweiten Bauphase wurden jedoch einige Teile der Kirche abgerissen und stattdessen ein Umgangschor mit Kappellenkranz gebaut, sowie eine Basilika aus den Steinen der abgerissenen Hallenkirche. Weitere Erg\u00e4nzungen beinhalteten die <strong>Erh\u00f6hung des Kirchenturms auf 80 m<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3>Funktion als Seezeichen<\/h3>\n<p>Die Erh\u00f6hung des Turms hatte einen rein praktischen Grund: er wurde als <strong>Seezeichen<\/strong> f\u00fcr auf der Ostsee verkehrende Schiffe eingesetzt. Aus diesem Grund wurde der Turm auch als einziger Teil der Kirche nach dem 2. Weltkrieg erhalten, als Langhaus und Chor wegen Bombensch\u00e4den gesprengt wurden. Dies lie\u00df <strong>Wismar in der Hansezeit<\/strong> zu einer der bedeutendsten St\u00e4dte in ganz Europa aufsteigen.<\/p>\n<h3>Historischer Hafen<\/h3>\n<p>Heute existieren neben dem Alten Hafen noch zahlreiche weitere H\u00e4fen in Wismar, an denen Schiffe jeder Art und Gr\u00f6\u00dfe anlegen. Dem Alten Hafen kommt dabei nur noch eine rein <strong>historische Bedeutung<\/strong> zu; die wirtschaftlichen Aktivit\u00e4ten haben sich an andere Orte verschoben.<\/p>\n<h3>Symbol des maritimen Stadtbildes<\/h3>\n<p>Der Alte Hafen ist von zahlreichen h\u00fcbschen alten H\u00e4usern ges\u00e4umt, in denen sich viele Hotels und Restaurants angesiedelt haben. Der <strong>Neubau an der L\u00fcbscher Bucht<\/strong> erm\u00f6glichte es schlie\u00dflich, beide Ausstellungen zusammenzuf\u00fchren.<\/p>\n<h3>Ausstellungsst\u00fccke<\/h3>\n<p>Die Exponate des technischen Museums sind nach den vier Elementen Wasser, Feuer, Erde und Luft aufgeteilt. Einen gro\u00dfen Teil der Ausstellungsst\u00fccke machen <strong>Originale und Nachbauten von Autos, Flugzeugen und Schiffen<\/strong> aus. Der Bau zog sich von 1381 bis ins sp\u00e4te 15. Jahrhundert.<\/p>\n<h3>Imposanz des Kirchenbaus<\/h3>\n<p>Mit seinen 37 m H\u00f6he ist das Kirchenschiff der Nikolaikirche das vierth\u00f6chste in ganz Deutschland. Passend dazu ragte der <strong>Kirchenturm urspr\u00fcnglich stolze 120 m<\/strong> in den Himmel. Nach Sturmsch\u00e4den im 18. Jahrhundert wurde er jedoch einige Jahrzehnte sp\u00e4ter im Zuge der Restaurierungsarbeiten auf die H\u00e4lfte gek\u00fcrzt.<\/p>\n<h3>Pr\u00e4gnantes Bauwerk<\/h3>\n<p>Trotz der inzwischen niedrigeren Turmh\u00f6he stellt die Nikolaikirche bis heute einen pr\u00e4gnanten Punkt im Stadtbild von Wismar dar. Es wurde um das Jahr 1380 im Auftrag eines wohlhabenden Kaufmanns erbaut und besticht optisch durch seine f\u00fcr die Zeit typischen Treppengiebel und reich verzierten Fenster.<\/p>\n<h3>Ein Restaurant als Namensgeber<\/h3>\n<p>Nach einigen Jahrhunderten als Gewerbe- und Handelsgeb\u00e4ude wurde das Erdgeschoss 1878 in eine <strong>Gastwirtschaft<\/strong> umgewandelt. Diese trug in Erinnerung an Wismars Zugeh\u00f6rigkeit zu Schweden von 1648 bis 1803 den Namen Alter Schwede. Da die Gastwirtschaft \u00fcber hundert Jahre lang in dem Haus ans\u00e4ssig war, blieb der Name auch danach bestehen.<\/p>\n<h3>Neuer\u00f6ffnung<\/h3>\n<p>Nach <strong>ausf\u00fchrlichen Renovierungsarbeiten<\/strong> in den 80er Jahren er\u00f6ffnete eine neue Gastwirtschaft im Alten Schweden, nat\u00fcrlich unter dem gleichen Namen. Jahrhundert. Seinen Namen erhielt es aufgrund des schwimmenden Langholzes, genannt Baum, der damals zur Absperrung des Hafens genutzt wurde. Heute finden hier wechselnde Kunstausstellungen statt.<\/p>\n<h3>Schutz des Hafens<\/h3>\n<p>Bei Dunkelheit oder drohender Gefahr wurde einst mit dem Langholz oder einer Kette die Hafeneinfahrt versperrt, um unerw\u00fcnschte Schiffe von Wismar fernzuhalten. Die daf\u00fcr zust\u00e4ndigen Hafenarbeiter, genannt <strong>Bohmschl\u00fcter<\/strong>, waren im Baumhaus untergebracht.<\/p>\n<h3>Ein Wahrzeichen Wismars<\/h3>\n<p>Der Eingang des Baumhauses ist von den ber\u00fchmten <strong>Schwedenk\u00f6pfen<\/strong> geschm\u00fcckt. Dies sind zwei barockbemalte Herkulesb\u00fcsten, deren Geschichte sich bis ins Jahr 1672 zur\u00fcckverfolgen l\u00e4sst. Die imposante dreischiffige Basilika wird erg\u00e4nzt durch ein Querhaus, Einsatzkapellen und einen flachen Chorabschluss.<\/p>\n<h3>Geschichte der Kirche<\/h3>\n<p>Erbaut wurde die Georgienkirche im 13. Jahrhundert und galt lange als <strong>Kirche der Landesherren und der Handwerker<\/strong>. Im 2. Weltkrieg wurde die Georgienkirche stark zerst\u00f6rt und erst nach der Wiedervereinigung Deutschlands wiederaufgebaut. Nur der Turm an der Westfassade ist bis heute unvollendet.<\/p>\n<h3>Funktion Kulturkirche<\/h3>\n<p>Der <strong>wundersch\u00f6ne Hochaltar<\/strong> im Inneren der Georgienkirche ist mit 42 Heilgenfiguren ausstaffiert und gilt als wertvollstes St\u00fcck der Einrichtung.
