Es ist einer der wichtigsten Schaupl\u00e4tze des irischen Unabh\u00e4ngigkeitskampfes.\u00a0Denn: Beinahe jeder irische Freiheitsk\u00e4mpfer sa\u00df im 1795 erbauten Kilmainham Gaol ein. <\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Das Gef\u00e4ngnis befindet sich auf einem H\u00fcgel im Ortsteil Kilmainham, das zur Zeit der Erbauung noch au\u00dferhalb der Stadt lag. Nachdem das Staatsgef\u00e4ngnis 1910 erstmals geschlossen wurde, wurde es 1916 mit den Osteraufst\u00e4nden wieder in Betrieb genommen. <\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">16 Namhafte Anf\u00fchrer des Aufstandes (wie James Connolly) gegen die Briten wurden in <strong>Kilmainham Gaol<\/strong> eingesperrt und hingerichtet. An diese erinnert heute eine Gedenktafel im Innenhof. 1924 wurde das Gef\u00e4ngnis endg\u00fcltig geschlossen. Danach wurde es 1960 von republikanischen Veteranen als Museum wiederer\u00f6ffnet. Es soll an die Zeit der Aufst\u00e4nde gegen die Briten in Irland erinnern.<\/p>\n<h3>Das Konzept der kleinen Zellen<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Im \u00e4ltesten Geb\u00e4udetrakt ist erkennbar, dass die Erbauer von Kilmainham Gaol das Konzept der kleinen Zellen zum Einsatz brachten. Dadurch sollten die Gefangenen besser kontrolliert werden. Der Trakt verf\u00fcgt \u00fcber sehr schmale G\u00e4nge, dunkle und unmenschlich kleine Zellen, ein nass-kaltes Klima sowie dicke Stahlt\u00fcren. <\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Im sp\u00e4teren Westfl\u00fcgel verwarf man dieses Konzept jedoch und mied jegliche Korridore. Der Grund daf\u00fcr war das gleichzeitige Einsehen aller Zellen.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In Kilmainham Gaol l\u00e4sst sich irische Geschichte auf beeindruckende Weise erleben.
